Observance of International Overdose Awareness Day in Wayland
Sat, Aug 31, 2024 at 6:00 AM
The Wayland Opioid Settlement Working Group is observing International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), held on August 31 every year, with masses of purple flags installed at the Public Safety Building and Fire Station 2. The flags are in remembrance of the more than 2,000 lives lost in Massachusetts in 2023 to opioid-related overdoses.
IOAD is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died and acknowledge the grief of family and friends left behind. Observing IOAD provides an opportunity for reflection on the tragedy caused by the opioid crisis.
The theme for 2024 is “Together we can”, highlighting the power of community when we all stand together.
